As a natural offshoot of my art & teaching practice, I offer one-on-one Creativity/Art coaching to meet you uniquely where you’re at on your creative journey, regardless of age or experience.

This is the BEST JOB I could ever ask for.

It enlivens me to usher individuals towards their creative voice and creative life.

What I offer:

These coaching sessions are really variable and customizable based on YOU and your goals.

Our sessions can involve any of the following:

  • Finding your authentic creative voice/ your unique “mark” (whether in drawing, painting, music, photography….etc.)

  • Help and encouragement in reigniting OR kick-starting a creative practice that is suitable to your life, schedule, & goals.

  • Reclaiming your inner child through a creative practice

  • Practical ways to clear your creative blocks

  • Finding your entry points to creative FLOW states

  • Facing the fear of the “blank canvas”

  • Giving yourself permission to take up time and space to create/make

  • Giving yourself permission to make imperfect things, ugly things, silly things, & full-of-“mistakes” things

  • Trusting yourself and the creative process

  • Tangible & constructive feedback and insight on your art work or existing portfolio

  • In-depth discussions on your art.  What themes & patterns are coming through and why?…etc.

  • Accountability for keeping up a regular creative practice

  • Customized exercises and projects.

  • Figuring out what’s next for you on your creative journey?  (perhaps you’re wanting more or something different but you’re not sure what… let’s talk)

  • Help creating consistency in your work and developing a cohesive “body of work”

  • Resource & material suggestions for improving & expanding your techniques and art vocabulary and knowledge

  • Developing and deepening the conceptual layers in your work

  • Writing your “Artist Statement”

  • Portfolio development (for entering undergraduate or graduate programs)

  • Submitting to exhibitions, grants, & fellowships

What this ISN’T:

-This is not therapy.  Though I believe that art making can be inherently therapeutic, I myself am not a licensed therapist. I am an experienced artist, teacher, mentor, and coach.  If you’re wanting insight and counsel on difficult life experiences (i.e. trauma), I will strongly encourage that you also see a licensed therapist to facilitate that deep work properly.  Your work with me CAN indeed work in tandem and be a beautiful addition to your work with a licensed therapist.

    My background:

My path in to the art field was not a given.  Nor was it straight. I had close to zero art mentors up until I completed my first undergraduate degree.  No known family member is or was an “artist” and I was forbidden to major in art as an undergraduate. My internal pull towards towards the arts persisted nonetheless. I have vivid memories from a young age asking to be enrolled in art workshops and an art easel being at the top of my Christmas list. Art has always been my calling, my passion, my joy, my fire, my balm.   After my undergrad degree in Sociology I DID finally encounter many art programs and art mentors that helped usher me forward to find my way.  This involved many art classes, work in the arts, and ultimately a Masters in Fine Art. My non-linear path that I fought hard for has shaped who I am today and has fueled my inner fire to NOW BE the mentor and creative coach that I didn’t have.  So, here I am… it’s WHO I AM.

    Education:

2003 BA in Sociology, UC Santa Cruz

2011 AA in Fine Art, Montgomery College, Takoma Park, MD

lots of other college classes and workshops a long the way ;)

2014 Masters of Fine Art, UC  Santa Barbara

    My Expertise & Experience

FIRST THINGS FIRST: I walk the walk and talk the talk. I have a very active professional art practice & teaching career and I literally practice creative-flow-state exercises on a very regular basis (drawing, piano, and dance). I fought hard for my creative life and I live it fully in this present day. What I coach is what I do and what I love.

Since adolescence until present day, I have initiated creative activities and spaces for friends and family. Over the years many people have looked to me for inspiration on how to upstart a creative practice. These conversations and “activities” have always come naturally and from a place of passion. Over the past 20 years I have immersed myself in formal art training and an expansive studio practice and teaching career. My teaching experience in the arts spans elementary school to non-profit, to the university level. I currently teach art courses at Cuesta College and at a local elementary school.  On the weekends I’m drawing and crafting with my two young kids. I have created and taught original art workshops in the both the museum, non profit, and school setting.  I have worked in the non-profit sector teaching art to adults with intellectual and physical disabilities (in both France and Long Beach CA) and managed their exhibitions from concept, to framing, to install.   I have supervised undergraduate Getty Museum interns.  I have been a part of graduate portfolio reviews. I have created my own curriculum for every class and course I’ve been invited to teach. Some of these classes include: Beginning Drawing, Drawing II, 2D design, Sculpture, Color Theory, Fiber Sculpture…etc.

My passions, education, teaching experience, and my own journey in healing, therapy, and the arts makes for my role as an Art & Creativity Coach the PERFECT and BEST job I could ever ask for. It enlivens me to usher individuals towards their most authentic and creative voice and life! It has and always will.
